240 airlines will refuse paper tickets in 2008
The international association of air transport (IATA), uniting 240 airlines which carry out 94 percent of regular international transportations, since June, 2008 completely will refuse from paper tickets and turn to electronic ones, is informed on a site of association.
" In 278 days, - declared general director IATA Giovanni Bizinjani (Giovanni Bisignani), - the paper air ticket will be needed only by collectors ". It is informed, that transition to electronic tickets when passengers do and pay the order of the ticket via the Internet, not only will allow to cut airlines expenses for 9 dollars from each passenger, but also will rescue from cutting down of 50 thousand trees annually.
Let's remind, that a number of airlines-discounters, such as British Easyjet, German Germania Express, Russian Sky Express already for a long time use system of electronic tickets when the passenger, having paid the ticket, receives by mail or to a fax acknowledgement with which he comes to the airport where to it at once give a boarding pass. From its part, IATA has started to pass to electronic tickets about three years ago. Now 84 percent of its passengers use electronic tickets.
In August it has made last order for paper tickets. We shall remind that Aeroflot, S7, Transaero and a number of other airlines the Russian airlines are the members IATA. However the first country which completely has passed to electronic air tickets probable will be China which will stop use of paper tickets already by the end of 2007.
